Marketing Goes To NYC

Among all of the school trips that I have attended, going to New York City with all of the marketing students probably tops the cake. Going to the Big Apple was a very amazing experience. Its hard to recollect all of the fantastic places that we visited while we were there.

Once we arrived, we traveled to Times Square. There was an ocean of people and the atmosphere was ridiculous. All of the places that we explored were humongous compared to the small city I reside in. As a girl, my first thought was to spend all of my money and come home with no money. Although, I somehow survived Time Square and adventured to Chinatown and Little Italy. Going there is almost like leaving the country and seeing a whole new world. There was so much bargaining and fake merchandise. It was impossible not to buy cute souvenirs and small trinkets. Little Italy was a beautiful getaway from the rampaging people of Chinatown. There I had the most delicious canolli. It was a taste of pure heaven.

The next day, the 51 students separated into three groups and visited the companies Rime, B-Reel and JWT. All three of these companies reflected what our classes were built to know. They gave us a background of what they do and intertwined the ideas of marketing, designs and business prospects. I was part of the group that went to Rime. Sue was the owner and she told us about being the only women in a male dominated company. It was an inspiration to hear about her background and how she has  become a successful entrepreneur. After that, our group traveled to Grand Central Park and met with the other students at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue.  Once the business trip was over, we traveled to the Rockefeller Center and ventured to the Top of the Rock. That was one of the best parts in my experience. Then, we went to eat then went to Broadway to see the Broadway musical. It was such an eventful day.

On Saturday, the bus took us to Hoboken, New Jersey and we went to Carlo's Bakery. Since I did not want sweets that early in the morning, I decided to travel. My classmates found the best place for a breakfast sandwich. It was called the Papaya Dog. There, I was able to buy an egg sandwich for $.99 and a bacon, egg, cheese, sandwich for $2.50. Being in Hoboken felt so homey and I truly consider living in a place like New Jersey. After Carlo's bakery, we went to the 9/11 Memorial. While we were there, we saw the Church that was still standing during the attacks. Seeing the Church and Memorial was such a humbling experience. It was so eye-catching and beautiful. Just standing near where the towers were made me very emotional. Once we went to the Memorial, we walked to the Stanton Island Ferry. It's unbelievable how many street dancers you encounter while you are in New York. We got on the Ferry and went pass the Statue of Liberty. Compared to all of the other buildings, it seemed really tiny. In the same day, we also walked the Brooklyn Bridge and went to dinner. That sums up our Saturday.

On the last day, we traveled to 5th Avenue and rode on horse carriage rides. The lovely Irish man gave us a tour of Grand Central Park. After, we shopped on 5th Avenue. It was such an amazing experience. The stores were enormous and expensive. It was so easy to spend my money. Even when I look back on it, I am happy I bought the things I did. Sadly, at noon, we had to go back on the bus and return home.

At the end of the day, going to New York will be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I will never forget such a great trip.

Goodbye One Stop Prom Shop!

After several months of working, the One Stop Prom Shop came and went on March 3. From 11:00 to 3:00, people went to the natatorium to view the magnificent spectacle that high school juniors and seniors created. The marketing education classes at Cuyahoga Falls High School collaborated to make a trade show for all people in need of help for their prom needs. The junior and senior classes worked on the social media, and business edge of the project. While Interactive Media created an assembly that helped promote the One Stop at the high school. Through dancing, a game show, and free stuff, people flocked to the natatorium that Sunday.

At the event, there were fashion shows, morph dancers, American Commodore dancers, and a raffle! People were constantly entertained while being informed about their prom needs. Vendors that helped make this successful included hair salons, restaurants, dress shops, and much more! People were even able to look inside of two limousines.

As a morph, I would prance around and take pictures with people who were willing. As a signature of the One Stop Prom Shop, we added a colorful edge to the event. 12 purple and silver morph suits would come together and perform the synchronized dance that we performed at the assembly. Local news channels and newspapers came record the event.

Overall, I am proud to be a part of such a successful project. I learned several marketing and business techniques that will help in the future.

Harlem Shake (OSPS Edition)

If you are unfamiliar with the viral song Harlem Shake, you must have been sleeping under a rock. the artist Bauuer is a sensation mainly because of the people who have made videos with it. Just by searching the words "Harlem Shake," you will see thousands of results including people embarrassing themselves.

As marketing students, the IMDD class saw this viral video sensation as an opportunity to advertise the One Stop Prom Shop. Therefore, we decided to make our own Harlem Shake video with morphs, masks and many other surprising characters. It all began last Tuesday, with a simple view of the original Harlem Shake video. After watching it we started concocting ideas for how to make our own version of the video. After only two days of planning and 36 minutes of of filming, the One Stop Prom Shop Harlem Shake video was born. After being released for only 24 hours, it has gained 898 youtube views, 205 facebook views, and helped gain 15 new followers for the One Stop Prom Shop twitter. The One Stop Prom Shop team are proud of what we have collaboratively created.

One Stop Prom Shop

After months of planning and hard work, we are only two weeks away from the One Stop Prom Shop assembly and Prom expo. In the beginning, all of it laid in the hands of 20 junior DECA students. It has now become a collaborative effort between 60 students; Junior DECA, Senior Deca, and Interactive Media. We have all become a united front and are now the faces of this marvelous project. The Junior class works with all of the logistics, the Senior class handles the social media and Interactive Media orchestrates the assembly that helps promote the project. From the outside looking in, we are only a piece to this enormous puzzle.

As a part of the interactive media class, I have willingly signed myself up to become a slave to the junior class. Our main purpose in life was to appease every demand they had. I signed up to become a happy-go-lucky morph. These demands included dancing to Gangnam Style, wearing the same clothes for a week straight, and perfecting our dance some more. Another team that are servants to the overlord is the video team. They are responsible for creating a video that helps add to the assembly. The assembly is a key marketing tool that helps high school students know about the One Stop Prom Shop. Overall, I am proud to be a part of a class that allows us to work independently and create a marvelous business.
